I would say one reason is that diabetes is the #1 cause of kidney failure in this country. Since not nearly enough people are willing to be organ donors, people die waiting for kidneys (& other organs). .

Right now in the US, there are 84,881 people waiting for a kidney. For 2010, only 2,551 kidney transplanats have been done as of Feb. Now, that's sad.

So, if the ADA could find a cure for diabetes, far fewer people would end up in kidney failure, and needing a transplant.

I was type 1 diabetic for 30 plus years; got a kidney and pancreas transplant in 2005.

As you know just over 10% of Americans are affected by diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association fund research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes, deliver services to hundreds of communities and provide objective and credible information so that the illness can be better understood and managed and treated.

People also forget that diabetes does kill millions worldwide each year but it doesn't get as reported when it does like a death from cancer. Wtih as many people affected by diabetes in America as there are those affected by cancer the American Diabetes Assocation is really trying hard to combat this silent killer and so are a very worthy foundation to support.

This is a great little guide that I can carry around with me wherever I go. It's nicely organized and provides just enough information to help me make the right choices for my meal plans.

While it isn't a comprehensive listing of all the foods available, it does cover most of the food items one usually encounters on a regular basis. You won't find exotic ingredients, for example, but you will find most of what you need.

I'd recommend this book for anyone serious about meal planning, whether diabetic or not.

This little pocket book is a great help for someone who has recently been diagnosed with diabetes. It is easy to read and easy to keep close at hand when you need help to make good choices.

Truthfully, this book is so thin that it is a waste of $5. 95. . . Go to the library and check out something similar for free and photocopy what you need. . . I will never use the book I bought -- same info is readily available online and elsewhere.

This book is not very helpful. The information, once it has been learned---ELSEWHERE--or, far away, long ago, on a distant planet---I can't imagine anyone needing this kind of help to do these conversions.

No, don't send the IRS a copy. Just KEEP the copy and report it on you income tax (Schedule A). If you get audited, you will need to show it.

I solved this problem when the sender took no notice of my request that they stop sending them to me, I saved up about weeks collection of other mailings and sent them all to them, as return to sender, they have to pay for returned mail and they don't like that.
I never got any mailings after that.

I heard of one case where Video cassettes were being continually being sent for approval and the sender paid no attention to requests to stop, and the recipient packed up a brick and sent it with the pre-paid return label, the sender was furious as he had to pay quite a bit due to the weight, but he never sent any more cassettes.
